This is my 30th post, which means I've made 30 recipes from my book so far. Only about 200 more to go. Yippee!
Out of the three selections for this weekend these were the ones I was looking forward to the most: The classic chocolate chip cookie. In fact, if I remember correctly, Toll House were the inventors of the original chocolate chip cookie.
Softened butter
Add brown sugar
The dough clinging to the beaters looks interesting
Added the essential chocolate chips
Also added walnuts
I'm not sure what happened, but the cookies came out of the oven looking like cow pies-flat, flat, flat
Compare it to the orange/chocolate/walnut cookie, on the left
I'm not quite sure what happened. The only guess I could hazard was that the orange/chocolate/walnut cookies used one and a half teaspoons of baking powder, while the classic chocolate chip cookies used one teaspoon of baking soda.
Verdict: The cookies were tasty, but very flat, and fell apart easily.
Next Week's Selections:
Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Oatmeal Brownie Drops
Choc-Oat-Chip Cookies
Looks like I'm going to have to buy at least another three bags of chocolate chips-I wonder if I can buy them in bulk somewhere?
I will leave you with photos of a project my husband is undertaking for school. I'm pretty sure its not easy or fun, but it looks really cool

Part XXIX: Chewy Brownie Cookies
More chocolate chips and general chocolate deliciousness, in the form of baking cocoa.
I ran out of light brown sugar. You can see exactly where I substituted dark brown sugar.
Metric Wonder Cup, to the rescue again
Brown sugar, vegetable shortening, vanilla extract, eggs
The dry ingredients: Flour, baking cocoa, salt, baking soda
I just can't stop myself-she's so CUTE
Combined wet and dry ingredients
Add the chocolate chips
Verdict: Yum! Chewy, chocolaty, slightly salty, and moist. I bet a little cinammon would be a wonderful addition. Definitely a keeper!

Part XXVIII: Walnut Orange Chocolate Chippers
I am very excited to be starting the chocolate chip chapter of the cookbook! In preparation for this week's recipes I purchased three sixteen ounce bags of chocolate chips. And used them all in one day. Wow. This may be a cookie career defining event.
The first recipe in the chapter was an interesting combination; chocolate chips, walnuts and orange zest. Two tablespoons of orange zest in fact, which is a lot.
I used my yellow bowl this time
Brown and white sugar
Add slightly beaten eggs
Combine
Intermission: Clematis blooming in the yard
African Violet blooming indoors
Back to work: Walnuts
Dough
Chocolate Chips!
An orange must be denuded of its peel, thanks to the help of birdie zester
Verdict: These were quite good, but even with two tablespoons of orange zest I could still barely taste the orange. If I had to do it over again I would have added half a teaspoon or so of orange extract! But they do look pretty, flecked with orange zest ribbons and chocolate chips.

Part XXVII: Oatmeal Pecan Scotchies
I was looking forward to making these cookies because I got to use butterscotch chips. I like butterscotch chips, but more importantly this was the last recipe in the "Vintage Favorites" chapter. That means next week I will be in the "Chocolate Chip" chapter AND I CAN'T WAIT!
Butterscotch chips and pecans
More bunnies!
Verdict: They weren't bad but turned out a little dry. I added more butterscotch chips then the directions called for, but I think they still could have used more.
Next Week's Selections:
Walnut-Orange Chocolate Chippers
Chewy Brownie Cookies
Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
I am looking forward to these!
