Part XXXVI: Chewy Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies

Out of the three cookies I made this weekend, these were the ones I was looking forward to the most. The recipe called for maraschino cherries, and I wanted to see if these cookies could transform the detested red cough drop flavored "cherries" into something edible. Did I succeed? Let's find out!

Squidy-Baked cuttlefish snacks. The box says "Crisp and Delicious". Squidy is one of these adjectives. Guess which?

Maraschino cherries. They may taste gross, but they are fun to photograph

Rainbowl interlude

The recipe called for half a cup of sour cream. Hmmmm....

The cookie dough is photogenic, more like batter then dough. The recipe called for sour cream and a tablespoon of the maraschino cherry juice.

More lilacs

Adding chocolate chips, pecans and cherries to the batter

Verdict: Surprisingly tasty. The batter came out very cake-like, and the pecans, chocolate chips, and chopped maraschino cherries all added different textures and flavors.

Next Week's Selections:

Peanut Butter Cocoa Cookies

Chocolate Chip Almond Oatmeal Cookies

Chocolate Orange Dreams

I am looking forward to next week's recipes. I like that I'll be mixing and matching three different flavors with the chocolate chips-almond, orange, and peanut butter. Stay tuned!

Part XXXV: Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hubby J and I have been watching old Twilight Zone episodes. We just saw my favorite, "Time Enough At Last". Burgess Meredith plays Henry Bemis, an avid book lover who only wants to read, in a world full of people trying to prevent him from doing so. His wife even takes a marker to and rips up a book of his favorite poetry. Mean!

Sexy intellectual Burgess Meredith, later of Penguin fame in the Batman television series from the 1960's.

He is taking his lunch in the vault of the bank he works at, so he can read in solitude, when an atomic bomb just happens to go off, killing everyone in sight, except for our hero. At first Henry is worried and frightened, he has enough food to last, but what will he do? Then he stumbles on the remains of the public library, still filled to the brim with books. As he sits down to read, finally, having time enough at last, to read all he wants, he bends down and his glasses fall off and shatter. Dang it! What a world!

I do love this episode for many reasons, one of them being that I also love to read, so I can relate to poor, nerdy, spectacle wearing Burgess. Thankfully I am not surrounded by people who are trying to stop me, but I can relate to the need for solitude. Especially to read.

ANYWAY, now that I have that out of the way, here are photos from my latest cookie recipe, the Hershey's double chocolate chip cookies.

Dry ingredients

Dry ingredients plus sugars, vanilla, butter and eggs. Cookie dough, duh.

Add chocolate chips

Mix

And Mix

Verdict: Yum! The cookies didn't turn into cow pies, like so many of the chocolate chip cookies I make tend to be. That, and they were soft. Yum! These were keepers.

Part XXXIV: Oatmeal Scotchies

Butterscotch and oatmeal? Yep. Tasty? We'll soon find out.

Oats

Pecans

Dry ingredients: Flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon

Irises

Lilacs-My yard is finally in (almost) full bloom!

Sugars, brown and white

Butterscotch chips

Mixing cookie dough, butterscotch chips, and oatmeal

Verdict: I was looking forward to making these, since I like butterscotch and this is the first recipe in awhile not using chocolate chips. However, they came out cloyingly, hurt your teeth, sweet. Yuck.
